Replacing Dulaney and Towson High Schools

Chris promised that he would bend every effort to accomplish the replacement of both Dulaney and Towson High Schools

When I announced my candidacy for State Senate in 2018, I promised that I would bend every effort to accomplish the replacement of both Dulaney and Towson High Schools. Both schools are ancient, by school standards.Towson is nearing 75 years old, with Dulaney not far behind.Towson is the most overcrowded high school in Baltimore County.Dulaney was poorly designed in the first place and was decrepit when the parents of today’s students were attending the school.

In Annapolis, I successfully worked to bring an additional $420 million to Baltimore County for school construction, far more than enough to build replacement schools. But then the Baltimore County School System recommended that the two schools not be replaced, so I had to take my fight to the County School Board to get the schools on the priority capital spending list. When the Board voted – by a single vote – to prioritize the replacement of the two schools, the County Executive came out against replacing the schools.Another fight ensued! Thanks to the support of hundreds of Towson and Timonium area families, the County Executive changed his mind, and next year’s County Budget now contains $19 million for the planning and design work for replacement schools for both Dulaney and Towson.
