Chris West

Chris was elected to the Maryland State Senate in 2018 and serves on the Judicial Proceedings Committee, which deals with some of the most complex and controversial bills. He is also on the Maryland Health Insurance Coverage Protection Commission, the Redistricting and Reappointment Committee, and a member of the State Senate Small Business Caucus.

Chris has been a practicing lawyer for over 40 years. Named as a "Top Rated Lawyer" in Banking and Finance in Baltimore, Chris has been the Chair of the Business Law Department of Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, one of Baltimore's oldest and largest law firms, and has served on the Firm's Management Committee. He is a past President of the Bar Association of Baltimore City and served two terms on the Maryland State Bar Association's Board of Governors. He is also a former co-Chair of the American Bar Association's Maryland Fellows.

Chris was the President of the Ruxton-Riderwood-Lake Roland Area Improvement Association and sits on the Board of the Ruxton Area Foundation. He served as Senior Warden of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, where he also chaired the Church's 125th Anniversary Capital Campaign. Chris has also served on the Board of the Radio Reading Network of Maryland for the Blind and Disabled. He's currently on the Board of the Thomas Wilson foundation, which makes significant annual contributions to assist underprivileged children in Baltimore City. He is also a former Vice Chairman of the Maryland State Arts Council and for many years served on the Board of the Young Victorian Theatre Company, including a six-year term as President.

Chris has been married for almost 30 years to the former Anne Winter. Anne is a former Board Chairman of The Learning Bank of Baltimore and a former Board Chair of Baltimore Outreach Services. She has also served on the Boards of Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland and the Maryland SPCA and is a member of the board of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. Their son is a volunteer firefighter and EMT at the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Company.
